[AlertDC] NOAA has issued a High Wind Warning that will be in effect for the District tomorrow, Saturday February 7th from 4AM until 7PM.

WHAT: Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.

IMPACTS: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Wind chills will remain at or below zero for much of the day Saturday due to windy conditions and cold temperatures.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm and avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution if you must drive. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make sure outdoor animals have warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.


Many alerts regard violent crime. Do not take action, instead call 911 with the event number if listed.
