DC Water reports an emergency water outage on North Capitol Street NW between Underwood Street and Chillum Pl. NW, due to a broken water main. Approximately 300 homes, a daycare center, a school, a behavioral health center and a graphic design shop are affected. The duration will be 6 to 8 hours.

The National Weather Service in Washington has
issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect until 1 PM this
afternoon.

Winds: Northwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

Impacted: Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree
limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Precautionary /Preparedness Actions:

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 45 to 55 mph are expected.
Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high
profile vehicles.

The District Government Cold Emergency Plan will remain in effect until 8AM Tuesday, January 22, 2019. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the current temperature is 15 degrees with a wind chill of -1 degrees. Tonight’s forecast is clear, with a low around 15 degrees and a wind chill of -3 degrees. Northwest winds of 7-14 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph.

The District activates the Cold Emergency plan when the temperature and wind chill drop to 15° F or when the temperature, with wind chill, is 20° F and there is an accompanying meteorological event such as rain or snow. To request shelter transport for DC residents who are homeless and on the street now, contact the Shelter Hotline at (202) 399-7093 or 311.
