[AlertDC] The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close lanes overnight on the George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) and Route 50 westbound off-ramp at the overhead crossing of I-66 for installation of the protection shielding for Theodore Roosevelt Bridge.
The work is scheduled to occur overnight Wednesday, Jan. 14 through Jan. 17 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The closures will be single lane closures with periodic 15-minute full stops on the George Washington Memorial Parkway in both directions. Where appropriate, full stoppage points will allow for motorists to exist off GWMP for alternate routing.
The Route 50 westbound off-ramp from the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge will be closed during the specified time periods with detour signage in place.
These closures are necessary for the installation of the protection shielding for bridge superstructure cleaning and painting operations. The cleaning and repainting of the super structure are key components of the rehabilitation of the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead and use alternate routes during the closure window. DDOT encourages all travelers to stay alert and follow posted signage for safe and efficient travel through the area.
Many alerts regard violent crime. Do not take action, instead call 911 with the event number if listed.
