[AlertDC] Weekday Overnight Lane Closures on I-295 for Digital Messaging Sign Replacement
Work Beginning December 8, 2025

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will implement an overnight closure of the right travel lane on I-295 Southbound between 9:00 pm and 3:00 am south of Suitland Parkway beginning December 8, 2025. Additionally, I-295 will be fully closed for periods of 15 minutes intermittently throughout the night. Traffic controls, including advanced signage for the lane closures, will be in place to guide motorists safely through the work zone.

The intermittent closures will be performed with the assistance of the Maryland State Police (MSP). DDOT urges all travelers to stay alert, follow posted signage, follow police guidance, and use caution near the construction zone. Work will take place over two nights and is weather-dependent. The lane and road closures are necessary for the removal and replacement of a digital overhead message sign spanning across all travel lanes.

DDOT installed the existing Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) in the southbound direction in the year 2000. It has reached its life expectancy and is no longer functional. The existing sign will be replaced with a new Full-Matrix Color LED DMS on the existing structure.

Many alerts regard violent crime. Do not take action, instead call 911 with the event number if listed.
