The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended the Flood Warning for the District of Columbia until 3:00AM.

What: Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

When: Until 3:00 AM, Sunday, July 03, 2022.

Impacts: Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses. This includes the following flood prone roads: Military and 36th Roads. Beach Drive from Broad Branch Road to Piney Branch Parkway. Beach Drive at Rock Creek Parkway.

Additional Details: At 11:47 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated additional thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

Precautionary / Preparedness Actions: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.


Many alerts regard violent crime. Do not take action, instead call 911 with the event number if listed.
