The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended the Flood Warning for the District of Columbia until 4:00AM.

What: Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

When: Until 4:00 AM, Sunday, July 03, 2022.

Impacts: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as poor drainage and low-lying areas. This includes the following flood prone roads: Rhode Island Avenue, NE, between 2nd and North Capitol Streets. Beach Drive between Broad Branch Road and Piney Branch Parkway.

Additional Details: At 12:52 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated additional thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen, with higher totals just upstream. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

Precautionary / Preparedness Actions: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.


Many alerts regard violent crime. Do not take action, instead call 911 with the event number if listed.
